It’s the end of May, which for most of Canada, means that it’s planting time! Nothing can be more welcoming at your front door than a couple of bright, healthy urns of flowers or leafy green plants. If you’re selling your home, you want prospective buyers to be thinking “I could live here” before they even set foot in the house, so be sure to put your best foot forward by sprucing up your entryway.
Try and select urns that complement the style of your home:
If your home entry is not symmetrical, or space is at a premium, you’ll probably only want one pot, or possibly a small grouping of pots of different sizes (three is usually the magic number).
Get help and advice! If you’re not a seasoned gardener, ask the pros at your local nursery to recommend plants that will last throughout the summer. You’ll want ones that stay bushy and full, nothing that will get straggly. If you aren’t able to tend the urns on a regular basis, you want drought tolerant plants, and you don’t want flowers that need to be dead-headed often.
If you’d like to have fabulous urns without getting your hands dirty – there are ready made urns available for purchase at garden centers and grocery stores that will provide the look you want without all the hassle. You do get what you pay for; look for pots that have been kept well watered, with plants that have been well tended. No dead leaves or broken stems. You can also purchase plastic pots of flowers that can simply be placed in urns that you already have at home: quick, easy and beautiful in an instant.
Remember that urns are portable and reusable! Don’t be afraid to spend a bit of money to get the look you want; urns can be moved to your new home, and you can dress them up for the winter and then reuse them again next spring.
Keep your entryway swept and uncluttered (less is more!) If you’re selling your home this spring, or just sprucing things up, either way you’ll have your home looking it’s best by enhancing it’s curb appeal.
